Kitchen Remodel on a Budget
By: H. Iacobacci-Miller
Let's face it, the kitchen is where we spend a huge amount of our
time each day. We either cook, eat with the family, even do homework
in the kitchen. Kitchen decor is important whether you're a professional
chef or a microwave commando.
Remodeling a kitchen can be costly and time consuming. For those
of us who don't have the money for a complete overhaul, why not
follow a few tips to help you make the most of your kitchen decor
on any budget.
Paint: It cannot be said enough, paint is the
best bang for your buck when it comes to remodeling or updating
any decor in your house. You can opt for neutrals, bright and bold
colors or faux painting techniques. One tip, high gloss works best
for the kitchen. Not only can you re-paint your walls, you can re-paint
unsightly cabinets as well.
Lighting: Try adding under cabinet lights to highlight
your counters. Change out your fixtures for a big impact without
breaking the bank.
Rugs: Add a large rug if you can't afford to redo
an outdated linoleum flooring. You can create your own rug by painting
on canvas and sealing with a high gloss sealer.
Hardware: Try changing out your door handles and
pulls. You'll be amazed at the impact that the change will have.
Molding: If your cabinets are on the plain side,
try sprucing them up with molding trim or add crown molding to your
ceilings to create more interest.
While we would all love to be able to remodel certain rooms in
our house, sometimes it's just not possible. It's ok to keep that
dream in mind and in the meantime, follow some of the tips above
to liven up your kitchen. If you have any tips or tricks for updating
a kitchen on a budget, let us know!
